HALEAKALA - SHORT SLEEVE

Part of our Maui Series, our Haleakala shirt highlights the massive, dormant shield volcano, that spans 75% of the land area of the island of Maui. 

Translated to “House of the Sun”, Haleakala summit stands at 10,023 feet above sea level. Ancient Hawaiians believed that the summit crater of Haleakalā was home to the grandmother of the demigod Maui. According to the legend, Maui's grandmother helped him capture the sun and force it to slow its journey across the sky in order to lengthen the day.

It is believed that Haleakala’s last eruption took place between 1490 and 1600, with the last of the flows making up the large lava deposits of the Ahihi Kina`u/La Perouse Bay Reserve area of South Maui.
